Ashlee McCarroll

Forebearers  Warmth

Struggles in my mind.
Rising sun now understands
thunder in whispers.

Little

Time lags when you are young;
to allow wonder to win,
to let on a chance for palpable grace
in the exhale of existence.

Ashlee McCarroll currently resides in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with her partner and two children. She is sixth generation indigenous Choctaw; knowing her ancestors were forced from their homelands during the Trail of Tears, she spends time researching and learning of their lives, customs, and language to ensure they are not lost. Ashlee is an artist and seamstress by trade; prefers pencil drawing, restoring formal and historical clothing as well as traditional regalia. Most of her writings are short thoughts and feelings as they present themselves to her.
